OJ named a finalist for Team USA

UCSB’s Orlando Johnson surived the first cut of players trying out for the USA Basketball Junior National Team that will compete at the World University Games in China.Johnson, who is entering his senior year for the Gauchos, is one of the 14 finalists who will stay at the training camp in Colorado Springs through Aug. 7. Peterson posts highest score, reaches junior semis at U.S. Open

Lakey Peterson navigated through the onshore afternoon conditions to net the highest heat-total of women’s competition, 14.33 out of 20, to advance through to the junior semifinals at the Nike U.S. Open of  Surfing on Saturday at the Huntington Beach Pier.Peterson is competing in the ASP 4-Star Pro Junior, which includes some of the world’s best under-21 surfers. Forester game called in 7th inning due to darkness

The visiting Team Vegas had problems with its bus and arrived 50 minutes late for Saturday's game with the Santa Barbara Foresters.  Due to the delayed start, the game was stopped after the seventh inning because of darkness.  The score was tied 4-4, and the final two innings will be played out starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday.The game delay adds to the drama of an exciting California Collegiate League title race between the Foresters and the San Luis Obispo Blues.  The Foresters must win … [Read more...]

Nava steps up, captures title at Decathlon Squash Open

Miguel Nava of the Santa Barbara School of Squash won the 4.5 Division title at the Decathlon Open in Santa Clara.

There was barely enough room in the car for Miguel Nava to go on a road trip to the Decathlon Open squash tournament in Santa Clara recently.At the tournament, there wasn’t an opening in his division, so he was forced to play up a division.That didn’t matter to the unflappable Nava. Pintard gets 700th win in Compton blowout

Jacquie Misho shot even par on the back nine at Sandpiper Golf Course and pulled away from Fumie Sato to win the championship flight at the Santa Barbara Women’s Open on Thursday.Misho held a one-shot lead (78 to 79) over Sato after Wednesday’s first round at the Santa Barbara Golf Club.
