Dons’ torrid hitting too much for Harvard Westlake

Santa Barbara used the long ball to get one step closer to its dream of playing in the CIF final at Dodger Stadium.The Dons hit three home runs to support the solid pitching of Danny Zandona and defeated Mission League champion Harvard Westlake 7-2 in a CIF Division 2 quarterfinal baseball game before a big crowd at Eddie Mathews Field.The victory advances Santa Barbara (23-6) to the semifinals at Mission Viejo on Tuesday. Thompkins sets PRs in decathlon, finishes eighth

(MARION, Ind.) Junior Adam Thompkins concluded day two of the decathlon at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships with an eighth place finish, scoring a point for the Westmont men's track and field team in the process. Whyte’s five RBI carries Gauchos past Pacific, 11-3

The start of senior weekend at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium went well as it was a pair of seniors who led the Gauchos to an 11-3 victory over Pacific in the outset of a three-game series.Trevor Whyte had a career-high five runs batted in while Greg Davis pitched eight sterling innings as UCSB won for the fourth time in its past five games. Doubles Graham Maassen and Cooper Matthieson from Santa Barbara tennis ended their run  in the CIF Individual Tennis Tournament on Friday, losing to Shuhai Shubahara and Chris Dalton from Peninsula 6-2, 6-0 at Seal Beach Tennis Center.Maassen and Matthieson made it to the final 16, with 500 doubles teams participating in the tournament."I am extremely proud of Cooper and Graham for making it this far in the tournament. Perez on a roll coming into City Golf Championship

Mitchell starts putting staff together, hires 2 former Rutgers players

New UCSB women’s basketball head coach Carlene Mitchell has moved quickly to assemble her coaching staff, hiring a pair of highly regarded assistants whom she used to coach at Rutgers.Mitchell, who was hired last week after coaching 10 seasons at Rutgers, named Courtney Locke as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator and hired Heather Zurich as another assistant.
