Royals’ 4×400 team continues winning ways in Berkeley

The San Marcos girls 4×400 relay team turned in another strong performance in the Invitational race at the Oakland Relays at Cal’s Edwards Stadium on Saturday.

The team of Elysia Hodges, Marie Brashears, Kaylin Koopmans and Hannah McDaniel won in 3:59. Last week the team ran 3:55.03 to set a meet record at the Santa Barbara Easter Relays

In the invitational 4 x 800 meter relay, the quartet of Kaitlin Kuehn, Annie Thwing, Hodges and Brashears clocked a winning time of 9:51.94.

The Royals’ distance medley relay team of Jewel Fisher, Katelyn Rheinschild, Rocio Pacheco and Hannah McDaniel finished in second with a time of 13:41.

On the boys side, the 4 x 400 relay team of Randee Harvey, Dillon Krause, Joe Dodson and Tristan Lake took second place in the Invitational race in 3:26, their best time of the year.

The boys team of Phil David, Nate Fearer, Michael Harris and Eric Salas took third place in the Invitational 4×800 in 8:44.83.

In other relays, San Marcos’ 1600 sprint medley team (Phil David, Cole Erickson, Nate Fearer and Michael Harris) took second place in the Boys Open Division event in 3:47.14; the 4×400 team (Cole Erickson, Davey Mcbride, Greg Peterson and Shane Rowen) finished third place in the Open Division race in 3:36.13.

In individual track events for the Royals:

Annie Thwing won the girls Open Mile in 5:29.2, with teammate Kaitlin Kuehn chasing her for second place in 5:30.09; Christina Kahlis took third in the Invitational 100 meter hurdles in 17.37; Eric Salas took third place in the Boys Open 1600 in 4:47.96; Randee Harvey was third in the Boys Open 200 in 23.29, and Andrew Thayer took third in the Boys Open 100 in 11.36.

In the field events, Shane Rowan took yet another first place in the Invitational triple jump with leap of 45-1, and finished second in the Open Long Jump at 20-3.5; Hannah McDaniel took second place in the Invitational high jump at 5-4.
