San Marcos suffered its first volleyball loss of the season, falling at Arcadia, 25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18.
Jackson Kunz paced a shorthanded Royals team with 21 kills and Ben McKenzie added seven. Defensive specialist Ryan Gilmore played a solid match, according to coach Roger Kuntz.
“We were missing a couple of our starters due to sickness,” said Kuntz. “ But our team stepped up and played well. I thought we grew and gained some valuable preseason experience playing against a good team.”
The Royals (3-1) return to Arcadia on Saturday for a tournament.
