SBCC has a tough day on the golf course

Matt Boberg, a freshman from Sweden, shot 78 on Monday but the SBCC men’s golf team struggled in WSC No. 4 at Santa Maria CC.

Canyons (24-0) won the seven-team match at 380, followed by Hancock (382) and Bakersfield (383). Kyle Rieb turned in an 80 for the Vaqueros, who finished last at 417 on a windy day with gusts as high as 45 mph.

Matt Sobzcak of tournament host Hancock was the medalist at 4-under-par 68.

“The conditions were tough but there were a lot of good scores, just not many by us,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We’re still trying to turn the corner.”

SBCC will compete in the Southern Cal Invitational on Monday at La Purisima GC in Lompoc, starting at 10:30 a.m.
