DP ends Easton Tournament on high note

Steven Reveles homered on the first pitch to set the tone for Dos Pueblos in a 4-3 win over host Simi Valley on Saturday in the final game of the Easton Baseball Tournament on Saturday.

“We let them know we were there to play.” DP coach Nate Mendoza said of playing the Division 1 power. “That really kicked us off.”

The Chargers scored another run on consecutive singles by Ben York, Joe Huthsing and Michael Spiritosanto.

Huthsing was the story of the day for DP, going the distance for the win. He allowed two earned runs and six hits, striking out five and walking just one.

“Joe really controlled the game,” Mendoza said.

York went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored; Spiritosanto went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and Reveles went 2-for-4.

Mendoza cited Reveles for his solid fielding at shortstop.

“Our defense played great throughout the tournament,” Mendoza said.

The Chargers finished 3-2 in the tourney, with both losses by one run.

“It was a competitive tournament. I’m very happy where we’re at right now,” said Mendoza.
