Wrestlers look to bounce back from losses

Local wrestlers all suffered losses on the first day of the CIF Individual Championships at Roosevelt-Corona on Friday.

Dos Pueblos wrestlers Esteban Flores (105), Nico Sorenson (121), Sam Sarmiento (135), Brian Dominguez (140) and Lucas Rascon (191) all went 3-1. Chad Lampe (114) and Harrison Solomon (127) posted 2-1 records.

Sorenson suffered a tough 5-4 loss in the quarterfinals, as his opponent scored a go-ahead two-point takedown in the last four seconds.

Lampe’s setback was a tough 2-0 decision in the quarterfinals.

DP coach Anthony Califano said the wrestlers face a tough road after losing.

“They have to be mentally prepared to bounce back from a tough loss like that,” Califano said. “They have to make weight in the morning. It’s hard after a tough, emotional loss. It tests their mettle.”

Yaskin Solano of San Marcos and Santa Barbara’s Bryce Vinion are still alive in the consolation round in the 173- and 191-pound weight classes.

All the wrestlers remain in contention for berths in the CIF Masters Meet. The top five qualify.
