CATHEDRAL CITY - UCSB (8-4) captured an 11-3 run-rule victory over Ohio State (4-9) on Saturday, the third day of the Cathedral City Classic.Right fielder Allison Taylor had a monster game for the Gauchos going 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, four RBI and a home run. SBCC’s Somdah, Vines earn WSC honors

SBCC sophomore Richard Somdah has been named to the first-team All-WSC North men’s basketball squad and teammate Chris Vines was an honorable mention choice.Somdah, a 6-3 forward from Houston, Texas, was the ninth-leading scorer in the 14-team conference, averaging 16.4 points. The left-hander scored 20, 20, 21 and 22 points in his last four games. The UCSB women's swimming and diving team placed second at the first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship on Saturday night. The Gauchos scored 629 points, edging out third-place Cal Poly by 15 points, but falling short against UC Davis (726 points).At this weekend's meet, UCSB won six event titles, posted 11 NCAA `B' qualifying times and set four new school records.Allie Knight won the Gauchos' first title of the day in the 200 backstroke. Gauchos frozen by Cougars in doubleheader

PULLMAN, Wash. – A day after waiting out the weather in frigid Washington, the UC Santa Barbara baseball team’s bats didn’t acclimate to the weather well as the Gauchos were swept in a Saturday doubleheader, 5-1 and 7-3.In the two games the Gauchos managed just seven combined hits vs. the Washington State pitchers in weather where the highs were predicted to hit the low-20s. Gauchos split Saturday at UC Irvine Invitational

The No. 15 UCSB Gauchos (9-4) faced No.4 California (11-2) in the round of the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday. The Golden Bears were able to take advantage of multiple UCSB fouls and pulled away in the second half for the victory, 10-6. The Bishop Diego girls basketball team couldn't seem to find a rhythm in front a big crowd at Santa Barbara High School on Saturday night, falling to Chadwick 37-26 in the CIF Division 5-A Semifinals. The SBCC women’s distance medley relay team placed second on a rainy Friday in the WSC Relays track meet at Ventura College. Cecilia Instebo (1200m), Margot Valenzuela (400m), Ayla Granados (800m) and Erika Schaeffer (1600m) combined to finish in 13:01.08.Kelli Johnson was second in the high jump as she cleared 1.65 meters for the second straight week.
