No worries for Westmont in 9-0 sweep

The Warriors gave up only one game as No. 16 Westmont Men’s Tennis produced a 9-0 sweep of the Royals of Hope International on Wednesday afternoon at the Abbott Tennis Courts. The Warriors improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play while Hope fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the GSAC.

The Warriors won every singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-0 except on the number two court where Tiago Haya defeated Jerry Laureano 6-1, 6-0. At number one, Carlos Lima defeated Gregory Cobian while at number three Bryan Cox knocked off Christian Booher. Diego Alameida won at number four over Justin Sutherlin and Mattias Neuman defeated Nathan Deghi on court five. At number six, Kent Storms was victorious over Mike Lipert.

Because of an injury to Laureano, the Royals forfeited the number three doubles match. At number one, Hayashi and Arthur Kalayjian swept Cobian and Booher 8-0. Stormans and Stephen Wertheimer won by the same score at number two over Sutherlin and Deghi.

Westmont will return to action on Saturday, February 20 when they travel to the Claremont to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The match is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start.
