Bishop Diego is going to the CIF finals in boys basketball.The Cardinals played solid defense and got 15 points from Elias Munoz to beat Orangewood Academy 44-37 in a CIF Division 6AA semifinal game Monday night at Liberty Christian in Huntington Beach.Bishop Diego (22-7) will play top-seeded Valley Torah for the championship on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana. Dons win in return to course where they took state title

Starting the year at the same course where it finished last season as CIF State Champions, the Santa Barbara boys golf team opened its 2011 campaign by winning the Central Coast Invitational at Santa Maria Country Club.The Dons, behind a 2-over 74 from sophomore newcomer Jonathan Collins, scored 379. Irvine Valley’s Fitzgerald freezes Vaqueros

Sophomore left-hander Cody Fitzgerald threw a two-hit shutout on Monday at Pershing Park, leading Irvine Valley past SBCC 2-0 in a nonconference baseball game.Fitzgerald struck out eight and walked just one. He had six 1-2-3 innings, including the ninth when he struck out two. Reese Hutchins shot 82 on Monday and the SBCC men’s golf team placed sixth in WSC No. 3 at par-72 Saticoy CC in Somis.Jeff Lester turned in an 83 for the Vaqueros, who finished at 430. Dos Pueblos flung itself into the winner's circle on Monday by winning the day's final two sets, which gave the Chargers a clutch 10-8 victory over Thousand Oaks in their season opener.The doubles teams of Peter Shao-Mason Casady and Jake Roberts-Caleb Franzen pulled out set wins in the third round to tilt the decision in DP's favor. Over a 100 boys and girls met at Camp Pendleton Marine Base this Saturday for an invitational Pankration event. Westmont senior Blake Bender from Anaheim Hills and sophomore Preston Branson of Dallas, Texas have been named to the 2010-11 Golden State Athletic Conference All-Men's Basketball team.Bender led the GSAC in rebounding, averaging 9.52 boards per game (tenth in the NAIA).
