SBCC opened its men’s volleyball season with a ninth-place finish at the 12-team Long Beach Invitational.The Vaqueros went 0-3 in pool play, then defeated Hope International 25-23 in the first round of the consolation playoffs. Yamauchi, UCSB impress in home finale

UCSB came out on top during its final home meet of the 2010-11 season on Saturday at Campus Pool. The Gaucho women’s swim and dive team defeated visiting Pacific, 219-60, and UC Davis, 190-10. UCSB split two women's water polo matches on Friday, beating Concordia 10-7 and falling to seventh-ranked Michigan 11-10 in sudden-death overtime. The UCSB men’s volleyball team wasted no time against Pepperdine, winning in straight sets, 25-23, 25-13, 25-17, to snap a 10-match losing streak against the Waves.The Gauchos (5-3, 3-2 MPSF) played error-free volleyball for the greater part of the match on Friday at Rob Gym, committing only 20 unforced errors.The biggest difference was the offensive efficiency of the Gauchos.
