Azusa dusts off Warriors no problem

It was all Cougars in Azusa on Saturday night as Westmont men’s Basketball (11-4, 3-3 GSAC) fell to #10 Azusa Pacific (14-2, 5-1) in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Azusa Pacific started off with an 11-0 run to start the way and was never in danger of losing the lead. By halftime, the Cougars lead 47-28 and led by as much as 29 (67-38) in the second half.

A bright spot for the Warriors was the play of CJ Miller who led Westmont in scoring with 14 points. Miller made five of six attempts from the field including three of four from beyond the arc. The freshman also had four rebounds.

Blake Bender tallied nine points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors while Preston Branson and Jordan Sachs each added eight points.

The Cougars were led in scoring by Marshall Johnson with 13 points. De’Angelo Riley added 12 points while David Stafford and Danny Nuggent each contributed 11.

The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Santa Clarita to take on the Mustangs of The Master’s College (8-8, 1-4). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
