SBCC linebacker Sam Shipley has committed to the University of Maine and will sign his letter-of-intent on Wednesday, the national signing day for football.The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. in Room 214 on the second floor of the Sports Pavilion.Shipley, a former San Marcos High standout, was fifth in Southern Cal and eighth in the state with 102 tackles in the regular season. The UCSB men's basketball team will host former Big West Conference member Boise State at the Thunderdome on Saturday, Feb. 19, as part of the ninth annual ESPNU BracketBusters.The tip-off time has yet to be determined.The Broncos and Gauchos competed against each other as Big West opponents from 1996-2001. The Santa Barbara Wavestorm boys all-star team won the AYSO Area 10W championship.

Bakersfield is the goal for AYSO teams playing in Area postseason tournaments.The Santa Barbara Wavestorm, a 12-under boys all-star squad, reached that goal last weekend by winning the Area 10W championship in Camarillo.The Wavestorm rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit against Ventura, scoring two second-half goals to tie the score and then prevailing in a penalty-kick shootout, 3-2. The Santa Barbara Breakers were victorious in claiming the "Who's Next" Classic Basketball Tournament held over the weekend in Lynwood, California.
