Gauchos land one of top prep players in country

Greg Scott, one of the highest ranked high school tennis players in California, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at UCSB, head coach Marty Davis announced Tuesday.

Scott, a senior at Mira Costa High in Manhattan Beach, is ranked 21st nationally and second in the section in Boys 18s. When he competed in the 16s, he was ranked 25th in the nation and third in the section.

“Greg is the best California recruit in my tenure at UCSB,” said Davis, who is in his 12th year as head coach. “We expect him to have an immediate impact on our program.”

Scott was the National Open champion in the Boys 18s and a National Open finalist in the 16s. He was also a quarterfinalist in the Winter Nationals both in 16s and 18s and a quarterfinalist in the Spring Nationals in Mobile, Ala., in the 18s.

As a sophomore at Mira Costa, Scott trained with the USTA High Performance Camp and as a freshman, he attended the Advantage Tennis Academy.

As a junior, Scott helped Mira Costa to its first Bay League title in 10 years.
