Schlagel sets up Linz for Dons’ game-winner

Alec Linz converted a penalty shot that Preston Schlagel created on Friday, a combination that gave Santa Barbara High’s boys water polo team a 7-6 sudden death-victory over Capitole Valey at the Villa Park Tournament.

Mark Davis gave Santa Barbara life at the end of regulation, scoring his only goal of the match with five seconds on the clock that drew the Dons even at 6-6. Evan Robertson had put the Dons in position to force overtime by scoring his second goal of the game with 1:30 remaining.

Robertson and Davis both had stellar performances, according to head coach Mark Walsh. Robertson drew three ejections to go with his two goals and Davis tallied four steals and two assists on top of the clutch equalizing goal.

The victory puts Santa Barbara (10-4) in the 9th-place bracket on Saturday.
