Seniors carry Gauchos to home-opening victory

Senior Milos Golic had a game-high six goals and senior Zsombor Vincze tallied five to lead the No. 6-ranked UCSB water polo team to a 16-6 rout over UC San Diego in the Gauchos’ home opener at Campus Pool on Saturday.

UCSB improves to 2-0 on the season while UCSD is now 3-3.

Golic and Vincze both extended their scoring streaks, Golic now has nine consecutive games with multiple goals dating back to the 2009 season and Vincze has five-straight games with multiple goals.

Senior goalkeeper Fraser Bunn played a solid first half with 10 saves. He was subbed out for sophomore goalkeeper Myles Christian in the second half. Christian recorded four saves in each of the last two periods with an incredible interception to stop an easy score on a Triton breakaway in fourth.

Next on the schedule for the Gauchos is the NorCal Tournament in Berkley on the 18th and 19th of September. The next home game is against UC Irvine on Sept. 26.
