Someone jokingly told Jenn Waddill that her SBCC women‘s volleyball team should drive to Ventura and back just to make it feel like another road match prior to Tuesday‘s home opener in the Sports Pavilion.The Vaqueros opted to remain on campus and proceeded to sweep Bakersfield 25-11, 25-18, 25-19 for their eighth win in nine outings. SBCC showed great consistency on Monday in scorching heat at WSC No. 4 on the Alisal River Course in Solvang.Nicole Bullemer and Emily Wisma led the Vaquero golfers with 84s and Nicole Denny shot 85 in 100-plus temperatures. Schmidt’s weekend performance recognized by Big West

Stacey Schimdt was named the Big West Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday, after the UCSB junior middle blocker led the Gauchos to a pair of wins to open conference play. Schmidt led the Gauchos in kills in both matches at Cal State Northridge and UC Irvine and averaged 3.89 kills per set while hitting an impressive .441.
