Inspired Chargers take out Oxnard in four games

The euphoria of seeing pop singer and alum Katie Perry perform in concert at Dos Pueblos earlier in the day left the girls volleyball team flying high at the start of Tuesday’s non-league match against Oxnard.

The Chargers rolled in the first game but sputtered in the second before regrouping and finishing off the Yellowjackets, 25-11, 15-25, 25-10, 25-17.

“Maybe we were still singing all those Katy Perry songs,” DP coach Todd Garrett said about the second game. “We finished game three strong on the back of a Tristan Racich 11-point serving run, including four aces.”

Amanda Moriarty had nine kills and Taylor Racich added 7 kills for the Chargers.

Garrett said Hannah Harris played some great defense with several key digs and some great serving. Jordan Roberts picked up nine digs.

Dos Pueblos will get severely tested this weekend at the Archbishop Mitty Invitational in San Jose. The Chargers open against St. Francis of Mountain View at 4 p.m. on Friday
