Bullemer handles the heat, finishes third in tournament

It was another scorching day at the Cactus Classic women’s golf tournament in Palm Springs on Saturday and SBCC’s Nicole Bullemer beat the heat with a 4-over-par 76 that earned her third place in the 36-hole event.

Her two-day total of 150 in 115-degree heat at Indian Canyons Resort was eight shots behind the winner, Cindy Yang of Mt. San Jacinto.

Bakersfield rallied to beat Mt. San Jacinto 635-639 for the team title with the Vaqueros taking third at 651. Anna Samson and Emily Wisma finished at 164 for SBCC, which shot 325 on Saturday.

“We shot some pretty decent scores in hot conditions,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “Our goal was to average 80 today and only missed that by five shots. This is an extremely intelligent group of ladies with a lot of talent. We just need to gain experience.”

The Vaqueros will host WSC No. 2 on Sept. 13 at the Santa Barbara Golf Club .
