BERKELEY – The UCSB women’s volleyball team dropped its first match of the season, falling 25-18, 25-15, 28-26 to No. 11 Cal on Friday night. Guzman, Littleton shine in Vaquero opener

It wasn’t exactly a home game on Friday evening but SBCC made itself at home in a 4-1 men’s soccer victory over College of the Sequoias. The Vaqueros opened the season on the synthetic turf at Girsh Park in Goleta due to work on the track at La Playa Stadium.Nikolai Littleton and Jean-Carlo Guzman both had a goal and assist for the Vaqueros. Jessica Domenichelli didn’t waste any time finding the net on Friday in her college women’s soccer debut. She had a hat trick in the first 26 minutes and went on to score four times in SBCC’s 4-1 season-opening victory over College of the Sequoias at Girsh Park in Goleta.The freshman forward from El Dorado Hills, Calif., found the net in the sixth, seventh and 26th minutes of the opening half, giving the Vaqueros a 3-1 halftime lead. Allyson Porter collected 17 kills in her first two college volleyball matches on Friday but SBCC dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions to Riverside and Pasadena at the Pasadena Quad. The AYSO season is starting up and the UCSB soccer teams are doing their part to get the players and coaches prepared.UCSB men’s and women’s teams will be on hand Saturday at Girsh Park for AYSO Skills Day. Camarillo pair go 1-2 in Nite Moves aquathon

In what for many was the last tune-up before this weekend’s Santa Barbara Triathlon, Camarillo’s Jim Avrea and Norbert Hoehne and local Jim Shalhoub were the event winners at Wednesday’s Nite Moves at Leadbetter Beach.Avrea beat out Hoehne by 31 seconds in the swim-run aquathon. Avrea did the 1-k swim and 5-k run in 37 minutes, 12 seconds. Hoehne crossed the finish line in 37:43.
