McClenathen withstands heat, takes silver

Goleta’s Gordon McClenathen finished second in the 2000-meter steeplechase at the USA Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento on Friday.Competing in the 75-over age division, McClenathen, 76, the former Dos Pueblos High track and cross country coach and UCSB Hall of Famer, clocked 11 minutes, 51.46 seconds.Jerry Smartt, 78, of Warsaw, Mo., won the event in 11:38.53.The noontime race was run in temperatures in the upper 80s.McClenathen, who runs for Club … [Read more...]

Foresters rally in ninth for 15th straight

Patton’s 72 tops SBJGT field at Glen Annie

Goleta Valley U10 Stars fall in section final

Goleta Valley South Little League couldn’t contain Moorpark’s big bats and suffered an 11-10 defeat in the 10-under Section 1 championship game Wednesday night.Goleta Valley led 6-3 in the second inning, but Moorpark roared back behind three home runs and took the lead in the fifth.Moorpark advances to the divisional playoffs in Palmdale.The loss ended a great run by Goleta Valley South, which won the District 63 championship. … [Read more...]

Dos Pueblos Little League’s Junior All-Stars made history Wednesday night. In routing Thousand Oaks 11-1 Wednesday, they became the league’s first Section 1 champion in the  13-14 division.Dos Pueblos used some timely hitting to capitalize on several walks given up Thousand Oaks pitchers and built an early lead. UCSB triathletes Lauren Capone and Jordy Littell topped Tuesday night's biathlon at Reef and Run No. 13, with Capone winning the 1k/2-mile run in 33 minutes and 18 seconds.Capone edged Littell by 13 seconds by making up some ground during the 2-mile run, outpacing all other biathlon competitors with a time of 13:50.
