The core of the Dos Pueblos district- and section-champion Junior All-Stars team won the state championship as 10 year olds in 2006.

Members of the 1965-66 UCSB football teams probably didn’t give hoot about soccer back when they ruled the roost at what was then a new Harder Stadium.But they were showing their full support for the Gaucho fútbol teams in a return to the facility that is undergoing some major upgrades. UCSB will have plenty of representation next week at the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships as eight current Gauchos are set to compete in the meet that runs August 3-7 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.Kevin Ferguson, Ryan Garcia, Ryan Hanni, Chris Peterson and Evan Simoni will be competing on the men’s side. 2010 Santa Barbara Open champion Marissa Mar chips onto the 18th green at SBGC on Thursday.

Davis' Marissa Mar claimed this year's Santa Barbara Women's Open on Thursday, shooting a 73 at Santa Barbara Golf Club that put her in front of challengers Fumie Sato and Sasha Cruz.Cruz entered the day with a one-stroke lead over Sato and Mar after carding a 76 at Sandpiper Golf Course on Wednesday. Nick Scarvelis finished ninth in the shot put and Bryan Fernandez placed eighth in the 3000m at the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics on Thursday in Sacramento.Scarvelis competing in the Young Men’s Division with many of the top 17- to 18-year-old throwers in the country, had a best mark of 56 feet, 1/2 inch with the 12-pound shot.The winning throw was 62-1 by Ben Glauser, the Georgia state high school champion. Gaucho wins U23 national title with club team

UCSB senior forward Kylie McDonald helped the Camarillo Eagles win the Under-23 title at the U.S. National Soccer Championships in Overland Park, Kan.The Eagles defeated Arizona Rush Nike 2-1 in the final to become only the second women’s team in history to win three age-group national titles.
