SBSC’s U-12 boys are champions in New Mexico

The biggest trophy a U-12 soccer team can win was brought home on Sunday by the Santa Barbara Soccer Club, as Rudy Ybarra’s boys took down teams from all over the western United States en route to winning the Far West Region IV National Championship in Albuquerque, NM.Shea Blackman, Jacob Blacker and Juan Pablo Alvarez each scored for Santa Barbara in its 3-0 victory over Colorado Arsenal in the championship showdown. Brazil-Chile to be shown at Arlington Theater

The success of the free World Cup soccer broadcasts at the Arlington Theater has prompted the theater to add another game for fans to see on the big movie screen.Monday’s Round of 16 match between Brazil and Chile will be shown live at 11:30 a.m. at the historic theater on State Street. Water polo power Montenegro to play at UCSB

In the water polo world, the small European country of Montenegro is considered one of the big teams in the sport.Local water polo fans will get a rare opportunity to see the Montenegro national squad play as it visits UCSB on Monday for an exhibition game against the Gauchos.The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Campus Pool. In a battle Royal at the AVP Tour Belmar Beach Open in New Jersey, San Marcos High grad Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser defeated fellow alum Brook Billings and Dave McKienzie in a first-round match, 21-17, 21-13.Rogers-Dalhausser, the tournament’s top seed and the No. 1 beach volleyball team in the world, needed 44 minutes to win the match. Santa Barbara is well represented on the USA Volleyball Beach Junior National Team.A total of five players from the community were chosen for the USAV Beach Under-21 select camp. University of Texas sophomore Sam Stafford was absolutely brilliant on Friday, striking out 12 in six innings of work as the Santa Barbara Foresters beat the San Luis Obispo Rattlers 1-0 at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.Santa Barbara's bats produced just four hits, and it wasn't even a bat that drove in the run.
