Edgington, Maiwald receive top SBCC honors

Zach Edgington has been named Male Athlete of the Year for SBCC while Meghan Maiwald earned the Female Athlete of the Year honor.

Edgington was named the WSC North baseball co-Pitcher of the Year after compiling a 6-3 record with a 2.92 ERA. The UCSB-bound left-hander struck out 101 in 80 innings and had an opponent batting average of .208.

Maiwald, who’s accepted a scholarship to San Jose State, was the No. 2 goalie in the state for the women’s soccer with a 0.35 goals-against average and 11 shutouts. She owns school records for shutouts in a season (13 in 2008) and a career (24).

Jakharie Murphy, a football safety who’s going to Glenville State (W.Va.), won the Ray Schaak Memorial Award and the Louis Lowry Davis Inspirational Leadership Award went to Lauren Takayesu of the softball team. Takayesu is considering USC and Arizona State.
