Dons great Cunningham loses young son in drowning accident

Former Santa Barbara High quarterback and NFL great Randall Cunningham suffered a tragic loss on Wednesday as his two-year-old son, Christian, drowned in a hot tub at the Cunningham’s home in Las Vegas.

Randall Cunningham, 47, was suited up for the Dons at Peabody Stadium on May 30th as Santa Barbara played San Marcos in an alumni game. The packed stadium saw Cunningham’s number retired at halftime along with that of his brother, former USC and NFL running back Sam Cunningham.

Authorities have said that Randall Cunningham was not at home when the accident happened. Police responded to a call placed by the woman who found Christian Cunningham in the hot tub in the late afternoon. He was pronounced dead an hour after arriving at the hospital.

Christian Cunningham was the youngest of four children parented by Randall and his wife, Felicity.
