Undefeated Chargers win title in Irvine

The Chargers pose with the trophy and their flowers after wininng the title on Saturday.

It was the usual suspects carrying the trophy at the SoCal Championsips on Saturday, as the top-ranked Dos Pueblos girls water polo team improved to 26-0 and won the title with wins over Edison and Los Alamitos.

Kiley Neushul was named the tourney’s Outstanding Field Player while Sami Hill was the Outstanding Goalie.

Neushul had four goals and two assists in a 9-3 decision over Edison in the morning. Tiera Schroeder and Jamie Neushul each had two goals and three steals, and the Chargers were able to shut down Edison’s top two threats.

Los Alamitos, fresh off of a win over No. 2 Newport Harbor, gave the Chargers more of a challenge in the championship game, but DP prevailed 9-8. Kiley Neushul scored the game-winning goal with 1:38 to go in the game. Things were tied 2-2 at the end of the first and 3-3 at the half. The Chargers went up 7-4 in the third but the Griffins battled back. Coach Danelle Little said that Sami Hill was outstanding, adjusting to a new defense the Chargers ran to collect 11 saves with a steal.

Schroeder and Jamie Neushul each scored twice in the game. Alex Hill and Schroeder were named to the All-Tournament Team.
