Fitzgerald returns to better Royals against Chargers

San Marcos senior Jade Wentz Fitzgerald returned to action on Senior Day after a five-week absence, scoring two goals for the Royals in an 18-6 Channel League loss to No. 1 Dos Pueblos.

Fitzgerald wasn’t truly absent, as Royals head coach Brian Roth praised Fitzgerald for never missing a practice or team function while injured.

“She has learned how to be a leader in a different way than scoring goals,” Roth said.

Dos Pueblos improves to 27-0 while San Marcos is 18-8. The Royals can secure a playoff berth on Thursday with a victory at Ventura.

Flo Chardon was another senior that scored for San Marcos. She elicited rave reviews from Roth for her combination of school smarts and athletic prowess.
