Charger girls defeat Rio Mesa 2-0

Claire Mathews and Michelle Gee scored goals for the Dos Pueblos girls soccer team on Thursday as the Chargers wrapped up the regular season with a 2-0 win at Rio Mesa.

Mathews struck in the sixth minute after a shot by Brandie Harris rebounded back to her. Mathews then set up the second goal, sending it across the goalmouth in the 37th as Gee buried it.

Meagan Bellefeuille recorded the shutout in goal while coach Molly Imel also gave credit to the defense of Kristen Witchey, Amber Altavilla, Marina Plesons and Danielle Zola.

DP (9-8-6) will open CIF competition in a wild card match next week.

“I’m happy with what they’re putting out there right now. We’ve definitely been late bloomers this year, and I think we’re going into the playoffs ready to peak. Plus, we’re getting healthy,” said Imel.
