Warriors start out on confident foot

Ismael Soriano and Tony Alvarez put away goals for the Carpinteria boys soccer team on Monday while goalie Erik Rojas posted a shutout in a season-opening 2-0 victory over Nordhoff.

Soriano connected just two minutes into the game, taking a through ball from Sergio Ortega and calmly tucking it past Nordhoff’s keeper. Eduardo Contreras found Alvarez early in the second half for the Warriors’ second score.

“We got off to a good start today, I hope we can keep it up,” said Carpinteria head coach Daniel Torres, whose senior-heavy team lost in the first round of CIF playoffs last season after earning a Tri-Valley League championship in the regular season.

Torres singled out senior Aldo Campo with helping out with the cleansheet.

The Warriors play again on Tuesday, taking on the Channel League’s Buena at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium.
