Dons win 2-of-3 in the O.C.

The Santa Barbara Dons boys water polo team closed out an action-packed 24-hour period with a 9-8 victory over Northwood on Saturday at the Servite Tournament.

It was the fifth match the Dons had played since arriving in Orange County Friday afternoon. After splitting games on Friday night, Santa Barbara won two-of-three on Saturday, including a 10-8 win over Laguna Beach in the day’s first match.

Brendan Kerwin-McElroy, who tallied a team-high 17 goals in the five games, came through with the game-winner against Northwood, the No. 10 team in Div. I. James Stilwell collected 12 saves in the match.

Mark Davis’ two goals and two assists were an important part of Santa Barbara’s first win against Laguna Beach. Ken Myers scored three times and Sam Foley had four steals and a goal in a losing effort to the Mustangs.

Santa Barbara, 15-12 overall, need to beat Buena on Thursday to lock up the third spot in the Channel League and guarantee a playoff berth.
