Deardorff adds more luster to solid season

Santa Barbara’s Briggs Deardorff added to his collection of podium finishes on Saturday, recording a second-place finish at the Clovis Invitational.

Deardorff, who has already won the College Park Invitational and finished second at the season’s first Channel League meet, clocked in at 16:06, topped only by Eastside High School’s Steven Melina (15:53).

The Clovis course is the site of the State Meet every year.

FeedburnerHouseAdBrianna Lopez was the Dons’ top girls runner, posting a 31st-place result with a time of 20:56.

“For a rookie on that course, it’s a really solid performance,” Dons head coach Olivia Perdices said of Lopez’s race.

Kelly Dreschler and Elli Harb completed the 5k course one after the other in 105th and 106th place.

Nolan Walker’s time of 17:41 put him in 79th overall.

“Just rock-solid races for all of them,” Perdices added.

Santa Barbara will next travel to the Arroyo Verde Park course in Ventura for the season’s second Channel League meet on Thursday.
