TO nips Santa Barbara by 3 strokes

Thousand Oaks was able to stop an improved Santa Barbara girls golf team on Thursday, edging the Dons 239-242 at Sunset Hills Country Club.

Despite the loss, the Dons’ score is still lower than any round from last season and it follows a blistering 214 on Wednesday.

“The girls can’t wait for a rematch,” said Dons head coach Ryan Throop, knowing that Santa Barbara (4-1) is gauranteed another shot at the Lancers on Oct. 22 at Montecito Country Club.

Lexi Ortega did a good job of keeping her tee shots in the fairway on her way to medalist with a 44. Freshman Saralisa Ortega was also dialed in on the tee box, carding a second-best 47.

Junior Haley True scored a 48, sophomore Olivia Fanaro a 50, Kylie Wagner a 53 and Thia Lorraine a 58.

Newbury Park also competed at Sunset Hills and carded a 292.

Santa Barbara’s next match is again on the road, against Camarillo at Camarillo Springs GC on Tuesday.
