Canyons beats out Bakersfield, Vaqueros

SBCC finished third in the third WSC women’s golf tournament on Monday at par-73 Oakmont CC in Glendale and stayed in second place for the season. The Vaqueros, who shot 355, are tied for second with Canyons at 8-4, three games behind Bakersfield (11-1).

Twin Lakes Golf CourseCanyons won its first WSC event with a 345 total and Bakersfield was second at 349.

Kait Gatena led the Vaqueros with an 86, followed by Anna Samson (88) and Asaka Sim (89).

“It was another tough course,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We’re still not quite putting it together. We need to be more consistent.

“It’s still early though and I’m confident we’ll get better.”

The Vaqueros will host the North-South Invitational on Sunday at Dairy Creek in San Luis Obispo and Monday at Morro Bay CC.
