San Francisco's John Dahlz championed the Santa Barbara Triathlon's long course in 2 hours, 53 minutes and two seconds on Saturday to lead a handful of competitors that eclipsed the three-hour marker.Dahlz, 25, excelled in the swim and bike sections and built a healthy lead going into the run. He needed it, as second-place finisher Patrick Baldwin, 33, took back over six minutes by scorching the 10-mile run in just under 57 minutes. Fernandez leads Nite Moves youth movement

The UCSB men's water polo team was picked to finish fifth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation standings according to a preseason coaches' poll released by the conference on Wednesday.The Gauchos received 32 points in the poll, 10 behind fourth-ranked UCLA and six points ahead of Pepperdine and UC Irvine, which were tied sixth.USC, the 2008 NCAA Champion and MPSF Champion, was ranked first with six first-place votes and 61 total points.
