Loftus cruises to Nite Moves victory
John Loftus sailed to a 24-second victory in Wednesday's Nite Moves 5k, beating out Carpinteria's Ricky Ho with a time of 16 minutes and 40 seconds. It was a large turnout with 220 competitors and male heavy at the top, with Ventura's Carrie Welther being the first female finisher in 29th place. It was one of those days for the Santa Barbara Foresters, who were blown out by the Conejo Oaks 11-1 in Thousand Oaks Thursday.Starter John Lambert uncharacteristically allowed eight runs in just 2.2 innings on six hits and six walks. Cloud takes baseball coaching baton from Moulton at Bishop
Bishop Diego announced Wednesday that Casey Cloud will be taking over the school's baseball program next year to fill the void left by departing head coach Brian Moulton.Cloud, a graduate of Santa Barbara High, played in the College World Series as a catcher at UCLA and played professionally in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for three years. Tom Myers, who is entering his 10th season as a coach with the UCSB baseball team, has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, it was announced on Wednesday by Director of Athletics, Mark Massari.Myers has been the Gauchos' assistant coach, pitching coach and recruiting coordinator during his time at UCSB under head coach Bob Brontsema, while his other duties have included academic affairs and Gaucho Baseball Camp.
