On a gray, May Saturday where warmth was at a premium, the Santa Barbara locals set the beach on fire in the California Beach Volleyball Association’s (CBVA) annual Men’s “B” and Women’s “AA” tournament, the first of three tournaments at East Beach this summer. Three Gaucho spikers named Academic All-Americans

Three UC Santa Barbara men’s volleyball players – Andy McGuire, Jake Rosener, and Matt Thobe – earned 2009 Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) honors for their diligence off the court as well as on it. Scarvelis’ stellar sophomore campaign ends

Nick Scarvelis’ outstanding sophomore season for the Dos Pueblos track team came to an end Friday at the CIF Masters Meet in Cerritos. Scarvelis threw the discus 166 feet, 10 inches to finish eighth. The top five advance to the State Meet. On Saturday, members of the Presidio Fencing Club (www.presidiofencing.com) traveled north for the San Luis Obispo Memorial Day Open at Cal Poly. Brown’s Blues have “best tournament ever”

The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club's 12 Blue team, coached by Tina Brown, had an incredible Memorial Day weekend at Regionals. It was a tough ending to a solid season for the No. 2 Cate boys tennis team, as the Rams went winless in singles play and fell to host No. 6 Laguna Beach 13-5 in the CIF Division IV Semifinals Tuesday.Coach Bob Bonning said he can't remember Max Sabel ever being swept in his time at Cate (15-4).
