UCSB senior forward Chris Pontius was named one of 15 semifinalists nationwide for the prestigious 2008 Missouri Athletic Club Men’s Hermann Trophy. Golic, Price named All-MPSF

Two UCSB men’s water polo players earned All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation accolades it was announced Tuesday by the conference. Sophomore Milos Golic received First Team All-MPSF honors and senior Miles Price was named to the conference’s third team.   Golic, a utility player, led UCSB with his 82 goals scored this season and was the MPSF leader for goals per game with an average of 3.04. Katie Randall scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the second half Tuesday night at the Sports Pavlion, leading SBCC to a 77-61 women's basketball victory over Santa Monica.SBCC (6-3) outrebounded the Corsairs 59-34 while improving to 6-3. Royals a little shaky in first loss

Jeanette Mendoza poured in 12 points and added six rebounds for the San Marcos girls basketball team in its season opener, but the Royals coughed up too many turnovers to Channel Islands in a 66-46 decision in Oxnard.Marissa Unzueta scored nine points and hit the boards with six cleanups. With 10 seniors gone from last year's CIF playoff team, San Marcos' girls soccer team held Thousand Oaks to a 0-0 halftime tie before the Lancers turned up the heat in the second half, winning the scrimmage 5-0. "Our defense played really well in the first half," said coach Christy Lozano, who also liked what she saw from junior forwards Ali Raack and Jenny-Ann Martinez. The Royals travel to Oxnard on Tuesday to face Pacifica in their regular-season opener.
