Owls can’t keep up with Faith

Top-ranked powerhouse Faith Baptist took care of Laguna Blanca’s 8-man football team on Saturday in Hope Ranch, picking up a 46-0 mercy-rule decision.

Coach Ray Robitaille said that his 1-4 Owls held tough by allowing only 26 points in the first half, and he also expressed his opinion on the Pioneers’ annual dominance in the sport.

“Faith Baptist should be playing 11-man football against Bishop Diego,” he said, pointing out that Bishop beat Grace Brethren — a former 8-man squad, on Friday.

“Grace Brethren moved up, and I respect that. Faith Baptist will never do that. They’re like the Oaks Christian of 8-man football,” he said.

Oaks Christian has been subject to criticism for its membership in the Tri-Valley League, a conference which provides little competition for the Lions.

The rivalry game against Cate is up next for the Owls, and Robitaille is pumped up about it.

“We haven’t beaten them since 2005, so it’s going to be a little payback,” he said with a chuckle.
